In honor of Jonathon Cote, a U.S Army Veteran from the Western New York area, SHIELD Security Systems Buffalo has donated a security system bundle to the Sixth Annual Jonathon Cote Memorial Motorcycle Ride & Fundraiser.  The event was held Sunday, August 17th, and consisted of 2 parts: the first part being a scenic motorcycle ride from East Amherst, NY to Lewiston, NY;  the second being a benefit at De La Casa Mexican Restaurant in Lewiston, where the ride reached its finish point.

Jonathon was working as a private security contractor in Iraq in November of 2006 when he was taken captive by enemy forces. He was missing in Iraq at the hands of his captors for a total of 523 days before his body was finally returned to his family in Buffalo on April 28th, 2008.  The annual Memorial Motorcycle Ride & Fundraiser is organized by family and friends of Jon.

At this year’s event, over 130 motorcycle riders participated.  Additional funds for the event were raised at the beneift that took place at the De La Casa Restaurant. Over 300 people took part in basket & 50/50 raffles and silent auctions, to which SHIELD donated a basket.    Proceeds from the event will be directed towards WNY Heroes, Inc, amongst other choice charities.  In the past, the event has raised over $9,500 for WNY Heroes Inc., and $3,000 for FreedomIsNotFree.com.  Additional funds are also directed towards a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating student from Williamsville North High School, where Jon graduated.

SHIELD’s donation was a basket valued over $750.00.  It included:

–       SHIELD Security Systems “swag”- 2 shirts, a mobile phone stand, pens, and a baseball hat, along with

–       One free security system, paired with 1 year free security system monitoring (valued at $750)
